Pursuant to the goal of bringing government services closer to the people, the Serbisyo Caravan under the Retooled Community Support Program (RCSP) has reached Barangay San Miguel, Las Navas, Northern Samar on Wednesday, December 10, 2020.
A total of 450 beneficiaries received hygiene kits from the Office of the Civil Defense (OCD) Region 8 and the Provincial Government of Northern Samar. The beneficiaries also received a generator set turned over by the OCD and the Philippine Army to the barangay.
Face shields and face masks were handed over by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Northern Samar Provincial Office to Isabel Mercado, Punong Barangay of San Miguel. Toys were given to the kids of the barangay.
Speaking on behalf of DILG-8 Regional Director Karl Caesar R. Rimando, DILG Northern Samar Provincial Office OIC-Provincial Director Danilo P. Laguitan expressed his gratitude for the participation and support of the residents of San Miguel in the activity. Despite the possible delays in the delivery of basic services, OIC-Provincial Directpr Laguitan assured the residents that the government is doing its utmost effort to be of service to the people.
The provincial director likewise underscored the importance of bayanihan. According to him, the role of the community is as significant as the role of the government. Furthermore, he assured that they will be returning next year to hold a similar activity.
During the open forum, the constituents of the barangay were able to express their concerns which were noted and answered by the national government agencies present. The activity ended with a short training and capacity development of the barangay officials and strengthening of Barangay-Based Institutions (BBIs).
The activity, initiated by the DILG Region 8, was participated by Board Member Fawa Batula representing Northern Samar Provincial Governor, Engr. Mar Ian Cutin of the OCD 8, LTC Juan A. Gullem of the 20th Infantry Batallion, PSCG Randy Calvo of the Philippine National Police (PNP) Las Navas, FO1 Cleofe Pinca of the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Las Navas, Aileen N. Diaz of the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) Northern Samar, Harry Batiles from the Department of Health (DOH), and Las Navas MDRRMO Arlito Oroncillo.
The Serbisyo Caravan is part of the RCSP, an umbrella program under Executive Order No. 70 - institutionalizing the whole-of-nation approach to end local communist armed conflict (ELCAC) in the country. This aims to integrate government programs and efforts by actively engaging the involvement of the sectors and communities in the farthest barangays in the region.
