Santiago City bags 11 Regional Awards

It rained and poured for Santiago, an independent component city in Isabela province, as the city bagged 11 plaques of recognition from DILG Region 2 during the recent LGU recognition rites for 2012.

Santiago City emerged as the regional winner of the Gawad Panama ng Lahi (GLP), under the city category, and its legislative body was also the regional winner of the Local Legislative, Award (LLA), under the independent component city category.

The GPL is a total award concept conferred to a Province. City of Municipality for exemplary performance in Administrative Governance, Social Governance, Economic Governance and Environmental Governance.

The LPPA, on the one hand, accords official recognition to a Sangguniang Panlungsod/Bayan that excels in the enactment of ordinances or resolution that ultimately contribute to the attainment of desirable socio-economic and environmental outcomes.

Other regional winners are the legislative bodies of Saguday, Quirino (4th to 6th Class Municipal Category) San Mariano, Isabela (1st to 3rd Class Municipal Category), and Tuguegarao City, Cagayan (Component City Category).

Santiago City was also declared as this year’s Most Outstanding implementer of the government’s Anti-Red tape Act (ARTA), besting the other cities of the region. Other major awards (City category) received by the city courtesy of its Barangay as well as Barangay officials and functionaries are the following: Most Outstanding Public Information Assistance Center (BPIAC)- Barangay San Andres: Most Outstanding Barangay Tanod (BT/individual  Category) – Francisco A. Tanelteg of Barangay Buenavista; Most Outstanding BT (Team Category) – Barangay Buenavista; Most Outstanding Barangay Peace and Order Committee (BPOC) – Barangay San Andres Most Outstanding Barangay – Barangay Rizal; Most Outstanding Barangay Executive – Heherson A. Dulay of Barangay Rizal and Most Outstanding Sangguniang Barangay- barnay Rizal.

The annual event, according to DILG Regional Director Rolando L. Rafael, aimed to give premium to the noble contributions of local government official, functionaries and other local government institutions of the region for the efficient and effective delivery of basic services at the local level.  - Vincent Dela Rosa
