Hundreds of bikers from across the region joined the Good Governance Ride organized by the DILG in partnership with the Region 8 Bicycle Advocacy Community (R8BAC).
DILG-8 Regional Director (RD) Karl Caesar R. Rimando said the Good Governance Ride is in celebration of the 29th Anniversary of the Local Government Code on October 1. It served as the launching activity of the Local Government Code Month this October.
The riders assembled at the Tacloban City Hall grounds where instructions were given by Atty. Edson Peczon of R8BAC, with a message from DILG Officer-in-Charge Assistant Regional Director Atty. Darwin N. Bibar representing RD Rimando.
From there, Traffic Operations, Management, Enforcement, and Control Office (TOMECO) enforcers guided participants to their route through Magsaysay Boulevard, Senator Enage Street, Justice Romualdez, Rizal Avenue, Veteranos Avenue, Real Street, Coca-Cola junction, traversing the National Highway, where they were met at the junction to the Provincial Hospital by the group of Leyte Vice Governor Atty. Carlo P. Loreto. From there, they encircled the Government Center, turned to Manlurip Road, DZR Airport, Real Street and then ended at the Tacloban City Hall grounds.
The Good Governance Ride owed its success to the support of the City Government of Tacloban, Provincial Government of Leyte, Philippine National Police, TOMECO, and Tacloban City Rescue Unit (TACRU).

Rimando said the Good Governance Ride is only the first of DILG Region 8’s activities this month to enhance people participation, promote inter-LGU cooperation, encourage good health habits and strengthen community resilience. The office is also conducting online seminars and meetings, poster-making contest, music video contest, song-writing contest, and a weekly radio program, among others to make the celebration of the Local Government Code Month more meaningful.
