Amidst the fight against COVID-19, the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Lanao del Norte remains steadfast in its efforts to end local communist armed conflict with the release of P256,000 worth of financial assistance to three former rebels (FRs) Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-CLIP).

DILG 10 Regional Director Arnel M. Agabe said the E-CLIP financial assistance gave the beneficiaries the chance to live a new life as law-abiding citizens.

"We laud our FRs here in Lanao del Norte for heeding the call of the government to return to the folds of law and start a new life," Agabe said.

The E-CLIP grants a full package of assistance to FRs who abandon armed struggle to become productive members of the society.

Agade said that beneficiaries received Php 86,000 each, comprised of immediate assistance worth P15,000, livelihood assistance worth P50,000 and reintegration assistance worth P21,000.00 for them to start anew with their families in the mainstream society. Cash assistance will also be given for their firearm remuneration.

He urged the FRs to encourage their fellow rebels to also surrender and take avantage of financial assistance for a new lease on life.

Said awarding of assistance was held during the recent launching and operationalization of EO 70 at Brgy. San Isidro, Kapatagan, Lanao del Norte.

Kapatagan Mayor Barry Y. Baguio happily shared on the results of the four months’ wait for the launch of EO 70 in Barangay San Isidro which ended with the turning over of a new page in the life of the rebels with the help of the DILG and the Municipal Government of Kapatagan.

Meanwhile, DILG-Lanao del Norte Provincial Director Bruce Augusto Colao, through his representative, LGOO Merychell Seronay, assured the people of San Isidro that the province is one with them in working for peace and expressed the hope that more rebels will surrender through this program.

Colao added that the E-CLIP financial assistance is one of the strategies of the “Whole-of-Nation Approach” to end local communist armed conflict which aims to address the root causes of insurgencies and other armed conflicts and threats by prioritizing and harmonizing the delivery of basic services and social development packages by the government.

Further, government agencies such as the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority, the Department of Trade and Industry and the National Housing Authority work together to identify and supply the needs of the beneficiaries and further capacitate FRs them on this new life.
