The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG)-10 advised the local government units (LGUs) of the 119 identified recipients of the Local Government Support Fund-Support to Barangay Development Program (LGSF-SBDP) to wisely spend the funds amounting to P2.4 billion on the implementation of their priority programs.
DILG Undersecretary for Local Government Marlo L. Iringan, challenged all involved LGUs to ensure that all projects are efficiently and effectively implemented.
“This (LGSF-SBDP) program is a double-bladed weapon. When properly implemented, it will show that the government actively addresses the problems in the barangay. When it is not, it will be used by the communist-terrorist groups (CTGs) to badmouth the government,” Iringan said during his recent visit to the DILG-10 Regional Office.
Iringan pointed out that bad governance is the primary reason why people side with the CTGs; hence the need to step up the implementation of Executive Order No. 70, which covers the LGSF-SBDP.
DILG-10 Regional Director Arnel M. Agabe said that the aim of the LGSF-SBDP is to deliver the plans and programs needed by the CTG-free barangays.
“Once implemented, it will help alleviate the plight of the people and eventually stop the five-decade armed struggle,” Agabe said.
Part of the deliverables of the department is the institutionalization of the ‘whole-of-nation’ approach in ending local communist armed conflict by 2022.
