STATEMENT OF THE DILG ON PNP CHIEF OSCAR ALBAYALDE'S DECISION TO GO ON NON-DUTY STATUS

October 14, 2019
EDUARDO M. AÑO
Secretary, DILG
We respect the decision of Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Gen. Oscar Albayalde to relinquish his position as Chief, PNP and go on non-duty status effective today until his retirement in the wake of the controversy where he has been allegedly implicated. I favorably endorsed his intent to the President on Sunday night which has been accepted.

I commend Albayalde for his selfless act in order to spare the PNP organization of the on-going controversy. This will allow the PNP to move on and continue exercising its mandate of protecting and serving the people. I thank him for his dedicated and distinguished service as head of the PNP.

For the time being, POLICE LIEUTENANT GENERAL ARCHIE F GAMBOA, who is the most senior police officer, is designated as Officer in Charge until the President appoints a permanent Chief, PNP.
