International Day of Persons with Disabilities

Pursuant to UN General Assembly Resolution No 473 issued on 14 October 1992, which was later adopted by the Philippines through Proclamation No. 1157 on 16 October 2006 declared December as International Day of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs).

The observance of this event hopes to create an environment that will allow person with disability to enjoy productive lives by raising the awareness of the people throughout the society and to inform the public that causes of disabilities can be prevented and in cases when such disabilities exist, early detection and prompt and appropriate intervention can be performed.

This year’s 2020 International Day of Persons with Disabilities celebration adopts the theme “Building Back, Better: toward a disability-inclusive, accessible and sustainable post COVID-19 World”.
