This was stressed by Local Government Monitoring and Evaluation Division (LGMED) Chief Digna R. Herrera of the DILG Region II in her welcome remarks during the back to back workshop conducted by the Regional Office for the LGUs.
DILG Region II through its Local Governance Regional Resource Center (LGRRC), recently conducted a two-day workshop dubbed as “Writeshop and Exchange of Ideas: LGRRC2’s Enabling Mechanism for Exemplar LGUs to Achieve Development Goals (WE LEAD)” and another two day event entitled “Innovations + Solutions Forum” at Zen Hotel, Maharlika Highway, Villasis, Santiago City.
Participants of these workshops were technical personnel from the five city and provincial governments with exemplary practices based on the five major outcomes of the Department. Along with the LGU technical personnel are representatives from their respective development partners and local resource institute.
During the workshops, participants prepared various advocacy materials and documented their good practices for possible replication.
On Peaceful, Orderly and Safe LGUs, the Provincial Government of Cagayan highlighted their innovative approaches in implementing the Comprehensive Local Integration Program. On Socially Protective LGUs, the City of Santiago featured their child-friendly local governance while the Province of Isabela showcased their BRO program for the Accountable, Transparent, Participative and Effective Local Governance. For Business-Friendly and Competitive LGUs, Cauayan City emphasized their Public Private Partnership initiatives and the Province of Batanes discussed their indigenous yet effective disaster preparedness practices under the Environment-Protective, Climate Change Adaptive and Disaster-Resilient LGUs.
In his closing message, Regional Director Jonathan Paul M. Leusen Jr. challenged LGU officials and functionaries to? formulate and implement programs, projects and activities that are participatory, innovative, sustainable and worthy of replication.
“Together, we will build a region filled with exemplar LGUs,” Leusen said.
