Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Eduardo M. Año says the temporary ceasefire declaration during the holiday season of the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP)/NPA/NDF) is "meaningless" and is simply for propaganda purposes.
He says that similar to the DND, the DILG is also not recommending a holiday truce because the CPP-New People’s Army (NPA) - National Democratic Front (NDF) will only exploit the truce to consolidate its forces to celebrate its 50th anniversary.
The DILG Chief said that the NPA and its communist front organizations will only use the truce to consolidate its forces as well as probably attack government troops to commemorate its 50th anniversary.
"We will not allow ourselves to fall into the same trap again. We have seen time and again the insincerity of the Communists and their front organizations," he said.
The CPP central committee announced last Friday a temporary ceasefire to take effect 12:01 a.m. of December 24 to 11:59 p.m. of December 26, and at 12:01 a.m. of December 31 to 11:59 of Jan. 1, 2019.
Año says nothing will come out of a truce because the CPP-NPA-NDF has really no intention to stop fighting with government forces during a ceasefire.
“Huwag sila puro ‘talkies’.
