DILG-NCR launches Search for Outstanding Sangguniang Barangay Awards (OSBA) Program

The NCR Liga ng mga Barangay Chapter Presidents offer toast in support to the DILG-NCR programs, in particular the implementation of the Search for the Outstanding Sangguniang Barangays.
Quezon City, July 15, 2008 – The DILG-NCR launched the Search for Outstanding Sangguniang Barangay Awards (OSBA) Program during its 2 nd Quarter Performance Evaluation. The Program seeks to recognize the outstanding achievements of Sangguniang Barangays (SBs) in all 1,694 barangays of NCR. It is one of the pioneering initiatives under the Barangay Empowerment & Development Program (BEDP) – a package of barangay-based projects geared towards excellence in urban governance launched by the DILG-NCR during the 1 st quarter of this year.
Likewise, the Search hopes to encourage SBs to be more innovative in the discharge of their functions and it serves as an avenue to promote best practices in barangay governance.
The Search shall be held annually and the initial implementation will cover calendar year 2008. From the nominees of each city and municipality, the Regional Awards Committee will select the Most Outstanding Sangguniang Barangay Awardees in the region.
Among those who witnessed the program launching were Liga ng mga Barangay (LNB) Presidents, Central Office key officials and other guests.
In his response, NCR Liga President Felipe Urrutia expressed the Liga’s appreciation and commitment for the success of the said undertaking.
Also at that assembly, the best performing Unified Field Operations and individual field offices were recognized in terms of PPA implementation.
In closing, Undersecretary Eduardo R. Soliman, Jr. offered a toast in appreciation of DILG-NCR’s improved performance for the quarter and its strong partnership with the LNB for the attainment of shared goals. (Public Information Unit)
