International Coastal Clean-upSeptember 16, 2012

Uniformed personnel and civilians join in cleaning up Manila Bay coastal areasEvery third Sunday of September, more than half-a-million people in 100 countries including the Philippines and 36 U.S states, remove millions of pounds of trash from beaches and waterways all over the world. The International Coastal Cleanup (ICC) is the world's largest cleanup initiative for a cleaner and safer environment and to show our country's support to the global initiative, Presidential Proclamation No. 470 was issued in 2003. Since then, a significant number of agencies have joined the International Marinelife Alliance (IMA-Philippines) and Conservation International-Philippines (CI-Philippines) as partners for this global concern. ICC was initiated in 1986 by The Ocean Conservancy based in Washington, D.C. as a population prevention and monitoring organization. The Philippines joined the ICC in 1994.
