<<Physical
Profile and Accessibility
The City of Baguio is approximately 250 kilometers
north of Manila. It is the jumping point to other tourist destinations
in the region. Most of its 48.90 square kilometers rise at an
altitude of 1,500 meters above sea level. On clear days, one can
see Lingayen Gulf and the South China Sea from promontories on
its western side.
Due to its elevation, the city’s climate is cool
and crisp. Baguio is cooler by 8 degrees Celsius on the average
on any month than any place in the lowlands. Temperature seldom
reaches more than 26 degrees Celsius at its warmest and drops
to as low as 15 degrees Celsius during the colder months.
Baguio is accessible by land or by air. From Manila,
visitors can take the daily 45-minute morning flights of the Philippine
Airlines landing at the Loakan Airport. By land, bus companies
ply the Baguio-Manila route while a growing number of provincial
buses service Baguio and the provinces including the Ilocos and
West Coast of Luzon. The three main accesses to the city, Kennon,
Marcos and Naguilian roads are open to traffic most of the summer
season. Halsema Road links Baguio to the interior parts of the
Cordillera while the Ambuklao Road passes through the Ambuklao
Dam connecting Baguio with Nueva Vizcaya, Isabela, Cagayan, Apayao
and Kalinga.

<<Seal
and Symbolism
|
|
|
SYMBOLISM
Green Field, represents Baguio as one mostly
forestland, which made the city in its early days truly
a green land contributing to the ideal and temperate climate
of the city all year round.
Canopy of Blue and White, represents peace
and serenity in the city.
Four Yellow Circles within a Diagonal Red Band,
represent the four gold mines operating nearby the city
and which contribute to the city’s economy by serving as
commercial and trading center to the outlying mining towns
in Benguet.
Waterfall, stands for the Bridal Veil Falls along
Kennon Road, a 70-meter fall of cascading white
water just opposite Twin Peaks, making it among the breathtaking
sights in Baguio.
Zigzag Road, refers to a road by this name,
a portion of the famous Kennon Road built by a US Army Corps
of Engineers headed by Col. Lyman W. Kennon. Both roads
have become important landmarks of the city.
Triangularlike Spearheads, represent the
pine trees, the most common tree in the city by which the
city gained the special name of “City of Pines”.
