Emergency Network Philippines |
Project
Overview and Objective The
ENP was envisioned as an expansion and upgrading of the then 117 Street
Watch Program now known as Emergency 117 in terms of area and service
coverage which was first administered in the National Capital Region in
collaboration the Foundation for Crime Prevention. Through
the program, call for assistance was automatically answered and verification/confirmation
of reported incidents is made possible. The population can access
these emergency call centers
simply by dialing the emergency number 117. This number is the same throughout
the Philippines and connects to public organizations like police stations,
fire departments or rescue services. These organizations will then respond
appropriately. Towards the end of 1998, the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) formulated the Emergency Network Philippines (ENP) Project that involves the establishment and adoption of a nationwide integrated government communication and relay system that is backed up by advanced state-of-the-art computer equipment, systems, software and database support. Its objective is to support a nationwide emergency telephone number and to enhance both the quality and the availability of emergency services.
